Why I chose to leave Ismailism

Hazar Imam.22.

Bismillahir Rahamanir Rahim….

I have been thinking of writing my journey from Ismaili to Islam for quite some time. Before I start writing anything about my journey towards Islam I want to make it clear to the readers that it is not my intellect that has led to accept the true message of Allah but it is the Kadr of Allah and his Rahma that He guided me to His true deen, otherwise I would have gone astray. As Allah mentions in the Holy Quran clearly

And it is not for a soul to believe except by permission of Allah , and He will place defilement upon those who will not use reason. (Ch.10 V.100)
I have tried to confine this article with some bullet-ed points which I find it simpler to organize content of this article.

Imam Only Can Forgive Sins :

Ismailis believe that in order to seek forgiveness from Allah they need to ask forgiveness through Hazar Imam since he prepossess the noor of Allah. They ask for forgiveness after dua everyday in their daily prayers. Who can forgive our sins except Allah ? Please refer to this previous article here on this topic. Hazar Imam is not above Allah so it makes sense for me to worship directly to Him than through Hazar Imam.

On the day of Chandrat/Baitul khyal there are special tables arranged for taking mehmanis for muskil asani and for ease of deceased souls. Mushkil asani dua is 6$ per person. This was the rate in 2007 in Phonix Arizona Jamatkhana and I was the one who payed 12 $ for Muskhil Asani for my alive Parents. I still laugh at this incident when I recall it sometimes that I was seeking Mushkil asani from a man who himself has to go to court to settle his own issues.

Also please refer to below hadith where the prophet of Allah (PBUH) says to Ibn Abbas to seek help from Allah Alone.

Ibn Abbas RA said: One day, I was riding behind the Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) when he said, “O boy! I will instruct you in some matters. Be watchful of Allah (Commandments of Allah), He will preserve you. Safeguard His Rights, He will be ever with you. If you beg, beg of Him Alone; and if you need assistance, supplicate to Allah Alone for help. And remember that if all the people gather to benefit you, they will not be able to benefit you except that which Allah had foreordained (for you); and if all of them gather to do harm to you, they will not be able to afflict you with anything other than that which Allah had pre-destined against you. The pens had been lifted and the ink had dried up.” (Tirmidhi)

Absense of Quran and Preachings of Prophet Mumhammad (SAW) in daily proceedings of Jamatkhana:

It is quite common if you ask any Ismaili that is there any preaching of Quran inside the Jamatkhanas….Surely the answer is No. And you may sometimes hear from some Ismailis that we don’t need to read the Quran, our Imam is Talking Quran (Boltu Quran). Astagfirllah. I myself have heard this sentence from an Ismaili.

It is well understood by those who were Ismailis one time and have read the Quran and through Allahs guidance they could easily distinguish between the preaching of Ismailism vs the Word of Allah Subhanwatala. The thing that surprised me most is that when the Hazar Imam even acknowledged in front of the entire world that Quran is the literal word of Allah and there can be no other place to take guidance other than Quran itself, but the Imam himself has failed to convey the same message to his followers.

Read my previous article on what Agakhan has said on Ismailis belief system. Click Here

May Allah guide each one of us to read his book and make connection with Him through five daily prayers and implement His book in our daily lives. Aameen. Ismaili are only allowed to read books which are approved by Ismaili Institutions and are sold in Jamatkhanas itself. All the books sold in Jamatkhanas or approved by Ismaili Institutions are Imamat centric and lack the true Preachings of Quran and Sunnah of Rasul SAW.

The Dashond Factor:

Islam says you have to pay 2.5 percent of Zakat to the poor and needy person. But Ismailis have a zakat which they call it dashond with an inflated rate of 12.5 percent which you only have to give it in the Jamatkhana. This dashond is collected and goes directly to the Hazar Imam. Imam is the sole owner of dashond. Ismailis have been paying dashond to Agakhan III and Agakhan IV since decades. I would rather give my zakat at the rate of 2.5 percent directly to the person who is poor and needy rather than a billionaire businessman who is self sufficient.

Reported by Abu Hurairah (RA): Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, “A dinar you spend in Allah’s way, or to free a slave, or as a charity you give to a needy person, or to support your family, the one yielding the greatest reward is that which you spend on your family.” (Muslim)

Righteousness is not (merely) that you turn your faces to the East and the West; but righteousness is that one believes in Allah and the Last Day and the angels and the Book and the Prophets, and gives wealth, despite (his) love for it, to relatives, and to orphans, the helpless, the wayfarer, and to those who ask, and (spends) in (freeing) slaves and observes the Salah (prayers) and pays Zakah___and (the act of) those who fulfill their covenant when they enter into a covenant, and, of course, those who are patient in hardship and suffering and when in battle! Those are the ones who are truthful, and those are the God-fearing. (Quran Ch. 2-V.177)

Closed Door Policy:

Between 2004- 2006, I was in Kampala when there came an Ismaili doctor from Canada for an educational trip. Jamat was encouraged to listen to him after Jamatkhana proceedings. He was closely associated with Agakhanic Institutions and was also doctor by profession. Before starting the lecture he started the camera recording. The lecture was more of personal hygeine and emphasis by Hazar imam to educate his jamat about it. Since he was also able to answer jamats question on Ismailism he was asked questions related to Dasond and other practices, he immediately turned off the camera recording and started answering question. That moment led me question my belief on why this tariqa of Hazar imam is so scared to tell the public about their matters inside jamatkhanas. My doubt about Ismailism grew and the quest for Allahs deen grew even deeper.

Disconnect of Imam with the Jamat:

There have been only 2 possible forms of communication for the present Imam which I have known. Which are sending Talika (letter) to the Jamat or visiting the jamat once in a decade at least. I understand being an single Imam for few millions of Ismailis around the world, it is impossible for him to be present with every murid. But he is also considered as Hazar and Nazar Imam (Present and who listens). Really ?

The jamat will receive 3-4 talikas in a year mostly dealing with quality of life and education and importance of learning English in todays world. The jamat is in his thoughts and prayers, Thats it. What about Allahs book ? I have never heard a single aayah from Quran quoted in his farman nor any hadith.

Don’t question:

In Ismailism, the Jamati leaders are appointed based on their status in the society, who are well to do financially, who comes to jamatkhana regularly. That is the basis of selecting an Mukhi/Kamadiyas and other jamati leaders who is influential in society and who can handle the jamats issues. But Surprisingly you don’t have to have the ilm (knowledge) of the deen. That is not required at all.

I have seen and Met Mukhi Kamadiyas in couple of countries who are financially well to do but their behavior tells us those are far away from the teachings of Quran and Sunnah. Jamati Leaders running liquor shops and are sitting at the front row as the delegates of Imam to forgive jamats sins.

If you have doubts or questions related to tariqa, you are looked down with a strange look. What kind of Ismaili are you ? You are questioning the Imam ? and so on. You ask the question to the leaders but they will not be able to answer your questions, instead you will be humiliated because that is the best they can do to make you feel bad about it.

I had so many doubts to clear but I did not get a single answer. I was waiting for the Hazar and Nazar (Present and Listening) Imam who could answer my questions, but that did not happen at all.

Too Much emphasis on betterment of this life than the life here after.

Hazar Imam has done a marvelous job on improving the quality of life of the jamat through his continuous emphasis of worldly education. There is nothing wrong with it, but he has done a very little on educating the jamat about the life after death which is why we are here in this duniya. I have listened to many farmans from him regarding education and improving quality of life but have seldom heard in any farman to focus on the hereafter as well.

And the worldly life is not but amusement and diversion but the home of Hereafter is best for those who fear Allah. Will you not then reason? (Sahi Internatinoal Ch.6 V.32)

Hazar Imams Personal Life and Businesses :

What Hazar Imam had claimed to be follower of Quran has neither implemented anything for his Jamat from the Quran, neither he has taken heed for himself.

  • Liquor is haram in Islam, still there are hotels run by Agakhans name sells liquor in it.

Click here to get the proof that hotels run under Agakhans name are selling alcohol.

serena

  • Agakhan’s son Rahim has has gone far beyond and continued the legacy of his grand father and has married to American Fashion Model Kendra Spears.
  • Prince Husain divorsed his wife weeks after the marriage of his brother Rahim.
  • Agakhan’s wife herself filed a divorce case and grabbed 50 million Euros in divorce settlement. (Reason for divorce : Affair with an air hostess.)

The Imam is unable to teach Islamic values to his family, then forget about teaching Islamic values to Ismailis.

Fashion Show in Jamatkhana in the name of Moderation:

This is one of the biggest problem in Ismailis Jamatkhanas now a days that while coming to Jamatkhana they come as they are attending a wedding party or something. There is no issue with wearing good clothing as Allah has given you so you should wear it but when you cross the limits then it becomes a problem. This has been a problem in every jamatkhana in the world especially with the youth. Women come in skirts and sleveless dresses and lead the dua and read farman in front of entire congregation. Wearing headscarf is a distant dream altogether. I have discussed this issue with few elderly Ismailis and they had the same concerns which I have mentioned here. According to them, Jamatkhana is a place of worship but today’s women come in such a way that  you just wonder “Are they really focusing on prayer wearing such dresses?

May Allah have mercy on the Ummah of Islam. May Allah guide and unite all the brothers and sisters who are gone astray from the straight path of Islam. Ameen.May Allah guide me first and us all to the Straight Path of Islam.Whatever written of truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the only Source of Strength

What made you leave the Ismaili sect? What opend your heart to Islam? A friend or Quran?

I have a friend who is from the Ismaili sect, while he has moments of kindness and encourages seeking knowledge, he remains very narrow-minded in some ways. I get the sense that he is almost anti-islam but at the same time says the shahada. It can be very confusing. One minute he hails the Ahlulbayt and the next minute dismisses all the pillars of Islam. Is this normal Ismaili behaviour?

  2. If imam will tell murids to connect directly to Allah then he will not receive gifts as his importance will diminish. Aga Khan by making himself divine has bought the loyalty of murids. You will serve the one who gives you. I asked my relative about heavy dasond so he told me “Maula he de raha hay tu us ko deny ma kya problem”. If Aga Khan will talk against their desires that “Murids do not sell wine” or “Do not earn haram” then he will be hit back by murids for talking against their desires. His requirement is their loyalty so that they serve him by “Tan Man and Dhan”, Dhan where ever it comes from. And now new terminology is “time and knowledge” as time is money. How they earn does not matters as Imams himself sells wine. When you are your self morally week then you are in no position to correct other. Aga Khan makes them to make Dua to him and thank him so that they can serve him unconditionally. Worship is made up of two things, obedience and love, and obedience and love should be greatest for Allah, but in case of Ismail’s both are in extreme for their Imam. Allah is just in words. In reality Imam has the noor of Allah. Once a Ismalis scholar why we ask every thing from Aga Khan he told me “Can u see the flower” I said yes, then he asked me “Can u see the fragrance” I said no. He then told me that “Imam is the flower and Allah is the fragrance”. May Allah forgive them, they say Imam is flower and Allah is his part. May Allah guide them.

    • Ismailis give money to their Imam not so that he can earn but because they love him just like every son loves him father. The murids consider their Imam their spiritual father which also prooves that he Imam isconsidered a being above Allah (Astagfir Ullah). Ismailis recite many tasbihs of Allah’s praises. Also, the money you are talking about is invested in many different projects which are for the benefit of all humans and not just Ismailis. These include Aga Khan Schools, Higher Secondary School, Aga Khan University, Health Centres and much, much more all across the globe. (You may search about the Aga Khan Development Network for more).
About considering the Imam as the Divine authority, I would like to correct you that in their daily prayers Ismailis prostrate in front of Allah six times saying “O Allah my prostration is only for you”. They also beg Allah for the sake of their Imam.

So you, Mr. Akbar Khoja have pronounced the judgement that Ismaili’s are on the wrong path and you’re rightly guided. You also claim that you’re a muslim but an Ismaili is not a Muslim. But Allah SWT refrains you from judging others.

“O Allah! Creator of the heavens and the earth! Knower of all that is hidden and open! it is Thou that wilt judge between Thy Servants in those matters about which they have differed.”
    Az-Zumar 39 Verse 46

Allah don’t want you to judge anyone as He has kept that duty for himself. Despite defying Allah, you call yourself to be on the right path. Congratulations to you.

You want us to stop calling ourselves as Muslims. I urge you to go and research what biggest scholars of Islam say about us and if we’re Muslims or not. The 200 top Islamic scholars have contributed to Amman message answering 3 important questions – (1) Who is a Muslim? (2) Is it permissible to declare someone an apostate (takfir)? (3) Who has the right to undertake issuing fatwas (legal rulings)?. Please enlighten yourself with what Aalims have to say at http://www.ammanmessage.com/

The basic reason I see you left Ismailisim was because you didn’t agree to it’s practices and beliefs. But then beliefs of 72 Islamic sects do differ with each other which is why all are on different paths despite having one Quran, same Prophet Nabi Muhammed Rasul A.S, Same message and same Deen. As you are pointing fingers at Ismailis, there are others who call you wrong. So who will Decide? Leave it to Allah as He created you to follow him and certainly not to judge. There are verses in Quran where Allah considers possibilities of multiple interpretations of his book. What Allah Almighty allows, is forbidden on us by a self righteous follower of the same Allah.

You must be having so much of dislike for Ismailism that you actually thought of creating a website only to talk about how Ismailism is wrong. Is this the way Allah asked his messengers to propagate his faith. Please tell me how many Ayats talk about positivity in Islam and how many can you find which talks negative about other faiths.

I’m sure of what I’m doing just as how sure you are of what you are doing.Leave us to our deeds & will of Allah SWT and He is just and rewarding.

you see hazrat ali was a true Example. Aga khan would not have attracted open bias if he followed the basics of the quran. Apart from alcohol he owns Habib bank . Do you know what’s the severity and punishment of running a business which operates only on interest in the quran?
Basically no one is judging here just trying to get others to see and read reality. It’s written in plain English translation in the quran what is totally forbidden and what’s not.
Either the quran is incorrect on whats it’s saying or your incorrect.
Oh as for his philanthropy. Name me one hospital where the treatment is FREE. Indus hospital in karachi is a very large hospital and everything there from ultra sounds to ct scans is free for all.

When the Aga Khan IV was asked about his view on the consumption of alcohol in a 1965 interview with the Sunday Times, he said, in line with Muslim teaching:[54]

Our belief is that the thing which separates man from the animals is his power of thought. Anything that impedes this process is wrong. Therefore alcohol is forbidden. I have never touched alcohol. But this, to me, is not a puritan prohibition. I don’t want to drink. I’ve never wanted to drink. There’s no pressure being placed on me by my religion.

  9. Those who leave Ismailism and accept Islam are on the right path of Siratul Mustaqeem. Because Ismailism is polytheism and Islam is Monotheism. In Ismailism a human god is worshiped. In Islam only Allah is worshiped. Prophet Muhammad SAWS was raised to introduce Allah directly to HIS mankind and to remove the Idol worshiping the middle man. Yes Allah is going to judge every individual but when it comes to distorting HIS religion on such huge scale and misguiding the innocent people against HIM, we are allowed to speak up and make them aware of the truth and falsehood and bring them to the real Siratul Mustaqeem..
Islam is the religion of Caliph H. Ali (RA) a Sunni Muslim and Ahlayl Bayt and all the Muslims, but not of Ismailis. Ismailism is a made up counterfeit religion in the name of Islam.
There is nothing about Islam in Ismailism. The very first commandment of Allah of Shahada Kalimah is rejected by an atheist Imam, followed the same by his followers. Moreover, even the Quran is rejected. That is proven by the fatwa of Sultan Shah, half Indian half Iranian who ordered to throw away the Quran that is a useless 14c old book. (Astagafirullah) and just to follow him as he is the walking talking Quran and the
Heaven and hell are in his hands, the same fatwa is continued by Karim Shah. In Islam there is no concept of Sects, as per Allah’s order, but those who followed the 12 Imams, closed the concept of Imamate after 12 Imams.
Although, all the other Shia sects have not abandoned Islam, or rejected the Quran or the 5 pillars of Islam,
except Agakhans has completely rejected all of it. So on what grounds do they claim to be Muslims or Shia Muslim. Please follow what is your religion but do not use the fake ID of Islam and Muslim for your man-made religion.

      • polytheism is believing in more than one god or diety. that’s the literal meaning. anyway its a word created by man to describe the above.
what word would you use for claimed Christians who take Hazrat Isa or Jesus as the SON of God and savior of mankind for taking all their sins ? They ask Hazrat Isa for help and believe his crucifixion forgave all our sins!
what word for that anyone ?
I’m sorry but ismailis no matter how good they may be as humans, when their Dua is seeking help from Hazrat Ali and the Aga Khan and their sins are to be forgiven by or through the Aga Khan whichever route they wanna claim is sorry to say but right next to the Christians described above.
What word is to be used then ? Polytheism is the closest word for it ….seeking help other than God or additional seeking forgiveness of sins other than God!
Hazrat Abu Bakar , Umar, Usman. and Hazrat Ali all were leaders. Now none disagreed with the rule of the predecessor or their election. Does anyone here literally believe that the new founded MASSES of converts to ISLAM who had stood by and fought with the Prophet (pbuh) during his lifetime would just see any discrepancy being followed in what was recently proclaimed without a shout or a fight ?
Did any of the followers or family members ever during their life pray to the Prophet seeking help when he could not hear them or was not physically present ?
Hazrat Ali himself married his daughter to Hazrat Umar…..cause there were no differences.
Bottom line is……no practice of any of the above 4 leaders was to ever ask forgiveness from those passed away. Nor was it taught.
Its simple……..first we must not bend whats written in the quran.
Prayers, Hajj, Zakat, Fasting, no alcohol, no adultery, no pigs, no association of anyone with God or his attributes.
ismailis simply push aside even WUZU which is mentioned in the quran. The Dua is MAN MADE ! Be reasonable please. MAN MADE! Ismaili brothers you can segregate the % of the DUA which is from the quran and which is not yourself if size is what matters.
God gave us the last book and the prophet and said in it that no future books or messengers would come. Now from the death of the Prophet till the death of Hazrat Ali if we wanna stop there I think there was a difference of around 30 years.
Do we want to believe that for 30 years there was no uprising against any of the practices being followed or the leaders while everything being done was against what was RECENTLY taught to the people by the Prophet himself !!!!!? Come on now ! A kid who was 15 years old when the Prophet died would be 45 by the time he saw the rule of the next 4 khalifas of Islam. Would he just sit and watch as they distort Islam ? certainly not ! and even if he did , then would all the other thousands keep shut as well for 30 years !!!!!
One does not even need logic.
Anyway , please don’t be blinded forget what I said. Just don’t defy what is commanded in the Quran that’s fine and acceptable as everyone shall be judged individually. But PLEASE DONT CLAIM Its not needed to be done or put in practice like making your own DUA, believing Hajj is not necessary or a substitute for it , not doing wuzu before prayers, seeking help from those passed away or forgiveness from others apart from God, deal in alcohol even indirectly, running a Bank or an insurance company especially when you claim to be a leader of a muslim mass and direct descendant !!!!!!
How could the Dua be in Persian then Gujrati then arabic language and that too only one language at one time worldwide ? Obviously cause their is a serious flaw. you see God’s word you can not find a flaw but anything created by man is bound to contain flaws which will be indentifiable.

      • Whoa whoa whoa! Slow down brother! I only asked you to elaborate on polytheism! Okay just to clarify: polytheism is the doctrine of or belief and/or worship of many gods. Ismailis do NOT (and I know this may be a big surprise to you) believe in numerous amounts of gods! Surprise! And two points I’d like to mention here:
        1) we do not believe The Imam to be God. He is known to be a religious guide that incorporates factors and ethics of Islam (yes ISLAM) including honesty, respect, responsibility, emphasis on education etc. We believe that he is a direct descendent of Prophet Muhammad. And just like the Prophet and the prophets before, he is blessed with the Noor of the Almighty Lord, along with you and I and all other Muslims. We do not WORSHIP him. We worship Allah. And FYI: you have no right whatsoever to point at anyone’s faith regarding Allah. Each individual’s relationship to Allah is between themselves and Allah ONLY, whether it be through ourselves or through our Imam.
        2) It is a shame that you point fingers at other Muslims rather than those who have no Iman at all. By disturbing and accusing a branch of our faith, are you trying to prove a point that we’re not human? Do you think that Allah will be proud of what you do? He is Al-Kabir the All Knowing. Upsetting a group of believers will grant you a taste of Allah’s wrath, not mercy. I will pray for you brother. Not that you should get the sense to return to our faith. That’s your journey, your faith, and I have no right or intention to interfere between yours and Allah’s relationship. But I will pray that you receive the sense of a nonjudgmental and open minded perception.
If I have hurt you in anyway, I apologize. I’ll pray to Allah for yours and your family’s happiness and peace. Salaam and Ya Ali Madad.

  10. I respect the freedom of speech and right to religion but I have a huge problem with all these ex Ismailis who go on to disect the ismaili religion after they have had a “wake up call” to become another type of muslim. If you have chosen to leave then leave respectfully so and stop obsessing about what Ismailis do. Mind your own business and manage your relationship with Allah and let the Ismaili’s do their own thing. By writing articles about Ismaili’s and talking about them, you are being incredibly judge mental and I’m sure that Allah is not going to be happy with that.

Say what you feel is right , follow the Quran and get stuck thinking what next because your prophet Muhammad is not there to guide you with what’s written and when you have guidance from Allah you refuse to choose , then you criticize …why don’t you look into what you call Islam as obedience to Allah through the grace of your prophet which you would not know if it wasn’t for prophet Muhammad and how do you know to live in this era of time and knowledge if it’s not for son of Ali , shah Karim al husseini Aga Khan … It’s better not to have an Ismaili who pretends to be one … Because if you knew your dua and meaning you would know what it is when we start with in the name of Allah and we finish bearing witness to the imam of the time and go on prostration to show obedience to Allah by the person which Quran states that it has vested the knowledge and authority of everything in the manifest imam …Surat yaseen, 36:12

O you who believe ! Obey Allah and obey the Apostle and holders of authority from amongst you …..sura Nisa, 4:59 ( now tell me who hold authority amongst you ?) ,

Do not speak of what you do not know , and I will not try convince you of the path that’s true …which you just left

  13. I become so disheartened when I observe people focusing on the ritualism of religion rather than the deeper message. Life is not a transaction between you and your god, it’s a means to make the world a better place for everyone. You don’t just grind your teeth and restrain yourself from doing what you want to do so you may be afforded those luxuries in an afterlife. Ideally, we should all focus on bigger concepts like Love, Acceptance and Humanity rather than trivial nuances that may or may not be seen as correct by your god. It’s really concerning when I attempt to broaden my horizons and learn about the religion which I left because of its superficial ritualism only to find justification for my leaving religion in the first place.

  15. Sūrat al-Kāfirūn (Arabic: سورة الكافرون‎) is the name of the 109th Sura (chapter) of the Qur’an. Al-Kafirun means “the Unbelievers.”

Like many of the shorter Suras, the Sura of the Unbelievers takes the form of an invocation, telling the reader something they must ask for or say aloud. Here, the passage asks one to keep in mind the separation between belief and unbelief both in the past and the present, ending with the often cited line “To you your religion, and to me mine”.

It was revealed in Mecca when the Muslims were persecuted by the polytheists of Mecca.

You all are ignorant enough to believe that Ismailis pray to Hazar Imam. We do not Hazar Imam is our spiritual leader and all these lies of Hazar Imam’s divorce reason are just so sickly of you all to consider. I guess you do not know that Hazar Imam is a pure noor and soul and he cannot commit sins. That is why he is Hazar Imam. I cannot wait till Allah shuns you for your sins on judgment day. How dare you speak such of my religion. I guess all of yall are forgetting that you are not suppose to judge others. You are not Allah. I guess you don’t know what dosand or as other muslims call it, zakat is all about. You don’t even know how much Hazar Imam has done for the whole world. Hazar Imam is constantly awarded for creating schools and many other things for less fortunate people. have no words for yall. To my humble Ismailis, Ya Ali Madad.

    • The fact of the matter is that Ismailis themselves are confused about the status of the Imam – is he a guide, or Ali, or a possessor of the Noor of Allah, or Allah Himself. Ismailis clearly supplicate to the Imam and worship the Imam. In the tasbeeh after the du’a, you call upon Ali and the Imam. In the giryazariji tasbeeh, you call upon Ali to fulfill your needs and forgive you. You call upon the Imam for help, for forgiveness of your sins, for children, in times of need etc. This is clear shirk and is exactly what Islam came to eradicate. 3 times a day in your du’a you recite Surah Al Ikhlaas: Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad. Allahu Samad. Lam yulid, wa lam yu lad, wa lam yakullahu kufuwwan ahad? Allah says: Say He is Allah, the One, the Unique. He needs none but all of creation needs Him. He was not born of any one nor did He give birth. And there is none that is equal to Him. Reflect on these verses. Allah is one, and He is unique. There is none like Him. How can Aga Khan be Allah or have the ‘noor’ of Allah when Allah swt himself says there is none like Allah. Allah is as-Samad – needs no one but all need Him. Aga Khan is human, he needs food to survive, this food comes from where? It is Allah that provides created rice grains and provided rain so that rice grows so that Aga Khan can eat. Allah has no children – Aga Khan has 4. Allah swt has no parents, Aga Khan has a mother and a father. Worship Allah alone – He has no counterpart, He is the Creator, the Provider, the Just, the One who has Dominion over the heavens and earth, and the One to whom we will all be returned.

      • Let’s clear something out. We Ismailis are NOT confused about our status, nor the status of our Imam. Hazar Imam is our guide, a direct descendant of Ali, an individual with the noor of Allah JUST LIKE YOU AND I WHEN ALLAH BREATHED HIS SPIRIT INTO US, however he is NOT Allah, and we do not believe him to be. Your arguement of shirk is invalid as the definition of shirk is polytheism. I don’t know about you and your logic, but in our holy Du’a clearly redefines the statement “La Illaha Illallah Muhammadur-Rasool Allah Aliyyul Ameerul Mu’Mineen Alliyullah” (There is no diety except Allah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, Ali is the Master of the Believers of Allah). We respect and obey the guidance of our Imam, and accept him to be our spiritual leader, however we do not and CANNOT accept him as Allah, as he is a human, and Allah is simply Allah. As a guide, Hazar Imam guides us on how to live an ethical and morally righteous life, along with advising us on how to become one with Allah. I’m sorry, but the one who wrote this article has either misinterpreted our faith and is sharing incorrect views to strike controversy, or has a form of enmity or jealousy with the Aga Khan. If we wanted, we could write articles on how wrong schools of Sunnism are or how inaccurate the views of other Shiites are. However, our faith teaches us tolerance, respect, and acceptance of other faiths. Take my advise, and just leave us alone. We may sound ignorant to you, but we know where our loyalty lies and where our faith should be, and quite frankly, we don’t need anyone teaching us our faith because, “Unto you your religion, and unto me my religion” (Surah 109:Ayat 6). Thank you.

Muhammad himself was uneducated then who wrote all that haithits? dont forget that after Muhammad past. Abu sufian and his children used Muhammad’s name to killed, rape, behead other religions for 100yrs. that is when Abu sufian’s childeren start to write fake hathits in the name of Muhammad to gain people trust which is still happening unfortunately.

  17. @burhan – what about me? You claim that Muslims cannot distinguish between true and fabricated hadiths. Perhaps you have not heard of the science of hadith. Each hadith has a chain of narrators going back to the Prophet (pbuh). This chain of narrators is meticulously studied. If there is a break in the narrators then a hadith may not be authentic. If a person in the chain of narration is not to be trusted then the hadith in question is not authentic. If a person in the chain of narration is known to have lied only once in his life, the hadith in question will not be authentic. Furthermore numerous hadiths are classified mutawattir – narrated by so many people that it is impossible to have been fabricated. The classifications of hadith are as follows: saheeh – authentic, hasan – good, da’eef – weak, and mawdoo – fabricated. There are 6 books of hadith that contain thousands and thousands of hadith that are classified the most authentic of all hadiths. These books are: Saheeh Bukhari, Saheeh Muslim, Sunan Abu Dawood, Jami at-Tirmidhi, Sunan an-Nisa’i, and Sunan ibn Majah. So clearly, your claim that Muslims do not know fabricated hadiths from authentic is completely baseless.

As for your slander of Abu Sufyan, please keep in mind that yes, he was opposed to the Prophet (pbuh) for a number of years, but ultimately, he accepted Islam so he has the status of a companion of the Prophet (pbuh). Abu Sufyan died during the khilafa of Ali – he did not rule the Muslims so again you have made a baseless claim and slander.

Indeed, I am Allah . There is no deity except Me, so worship Me and establish prayer for My remembrance.
Indeed, the Hour is coming – I almost conceal it – so that every soul may be recompensed according to that for which it strives.
So do not let one avert you from it who does not believe in it and follows his desire, for you [then] would perish. (Sura Taha -14-16)

  18. Dear Friends, I read all the comments and the difference of opinions. And, today I will share something very important. We all have the right to disagree. I recommend to stay positive and lets use our mind and knowledge to find the realities and facts without any judgment or negativity. So,I am an Ismaili and have spent 25 years researching about this religion. I have attended all the majlis, ceremonies, deedars and have completed religious studies from ITREB. Being an Ismaili or from any other religion, we all have the right to ask questions so I have asked many questions to Ismaili scholars and I am unable to find answers.

Firstly, I have great respect of Hazir Imam, Ismailies, and all humans belonging to any religion; I appreciate the work Hazir Imam has done all around the world…a blind can also see the amount of developments he has done and how much hard working this man is. He is very intelligent, highly educated and a successful business men too. his guidance about worldly matters is just too good..Yes he is making money, plenty of money.. living luxury life, marrying a beautiful model and enjoying horse racing…He has the complete right to do so…after all he is also a human being…lets appreciate what he is doing right…he is creating this world a better place to live…remember, very few people do that in this world.

I see there is a lot of confusion in Ismaiies and there are many things which they all are unintentionally doing wrong b/c the mukhi and mukhani doesn’t have religion research or knowledge.., For example, I see majority of the ismailies brothers and sisters praying in front of Hazir Imam picture and asking for forgiveness of their sins by bending themselves physically in front of Hazar Imam picture…according to 80% of Ismailies I know believe that Hazir Imam can see everyone 24 hours what we are doing and what we are thinking..and they say that Hazir Imam is the one who give life to them…when they die Hazar Imam decides whether he or she will go to hell or heaven…when they pray Hazir Imam listens to their prayers and answers their prayers…even if rain happens it is due to Hazir Imam 🙂 and when some non ismaili person audits the jamatkhana randomly, they asked the volunters to remove the pictures quickly and in few countries they say that we are here for birthday party..This is the craziest one :)…My friends..brothers and sisters…Why so much fear…you fear only when you know you are doing something wrong.. Hazir Imam is a normal human being who is resposible for Ismaili community development and give guidance to his followers..He is not Allah..He doesn’t know what will happen tomorrow…40 Ismaili brothers and sisters were killed recently in Pakistan…Imam was very shocked and sad…he gave a tough time to government..see he doesn’t know the future b/c he is also a human being..use your mind and knowledge.

This is not what the religion teaches us…I am quite hopefull one day IIS, Itreb and Hazir Imam will take action and educate these people who are following the religion in the wrong way.

I have only one message to everyone…there are hundereds of sub religions created by us in the last 1500 years…use your mind and knowledge…not everything being told is correct and do not follow any religion blindly.and don’t hate anyone b/c of religion…lets play our part and do our research first. Allah created this world as a beautiful place and we messed it up badly..May Allah give us the strength to use our mind which is gifted by Allah.

  20. In the world of Islamic Spirituality, all the judgments are prerogative of Allah.

Many thanks to all commentators if their intentions are sincere and one without considering themselves as “Self-Appointed Judges” doing the job of Allah.

The need for this website perhaps, may not have been a necessity, if one understands that Islam has many diverse traditions of interpretation or “Madhaabs”. And a true Muslim leaves it to Allah to judge if one tradition has more merits over the others.

And within each Madhaabs, there are diverse “Tariqahs” or paths for practices. Some are “Exoteric (Zaheri)” and others are “Esoteric (Batini)” in their interpretations. Further to that, certain Tariqahs search for “Haqiqat” with the ultimate goal of attaining “Maarifat”.

Nizari Ismailis practice, under the spiritual guidance of our Imam-e-Zaman Agakhan IV, has similar four components with the emphasis on Esoteric (Batini) interpretation of the message of Islam. And central to its practice is the esoteric status of “Imamat”.

Any misunderstanding of the above mentioned Nizari Ismailis practice will result in its ultimate misinterpretation.

Please leave all judgment to Allah, after all that is what Holy Quran expects from Muslims.

It’s surprising how people look upon you when you choose to go simple and their judgements just urge you to never go to jk again. Then, its ridiculous how people fight for the jamati posts like representing themselves or most suitably showcasing or showing off their ‘talents’ through reciting ginans, duas, farmans etc. They literally fight!

  24. Wow, this is so wrong I feel bad for the poor, misinformed soul that wrote it. Let’s break down each of the misconceptions and clarify them so we’re not encouraging religious exceptionalism against Ismailis. It’s articles like this that make my life a lot more difficult.

    1. Allah forgives sins, not the Imam. The vestiges of the authority of the Imammat in Ismailism are guidance on how to seek forgiveness from Allah by never committing or correcting your previous mistakes. Just because the Aga Khan is supposed to have all the answers, doesn’t mean it’s a physical person forgiving your sins…it’s still Allah. And yes, while there are paid indulgences within a jamatkhana, these are used to support the jamatkhana and everyone knows that. Increasing your zakat is seen as a way to increase your deen because the cultural context most Ismailis had originated from (Hinduism), there is no requirement to pay any fee to be Ismaili or pray in an Ismaili way.

    2. The Ismaili du’a contains 6 ayaats from the Qur’an, there is no absence of holy scripture in Ismaili rites/rituals. Any Ismaili that tells you the Qur’an isn’t needed because the Imam interprets it for them is out of their mind. There are crazies in greater Islam, there are going to be crazies in Ismailism. All of the books sold in jamatkhana are not specialized messages that don’t adhere to the Sunnah: in fact, Ismaili theology falls under Ja’fari jurisprudence – a jurisprudence equal to Hanafi, Hanbali, Shafi’i, and Maliki. The Muslim World League acknowledges this, the author here is egregiously misinformed. You’re promoting hate and separatism.

    3. 2/3’s or more of dashond is directly donated back to institutions which seek to help the needy, triple of what other Muslims are required. The other 1/3 or so is used to help sustain the survival of the Ismaili centre one is giving the dashond at. While it’s true all dashond goes through the Aga Khan at some point, spending allocation is made extremely transparent by Ismaili institutions. The Aga Khan actually filters this to make sure more of that money goes to poor instead of falling into non-sustainability. Ismaili institutions in the 3rd world are best known for following the saying, “you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day; you teach a man how to fish, you feed him for a lifetime”. This point follows the assumption that the Aga Khan has to be inherently bad with how they allocate these funds, and I, again, feel sorry for the poor soul that thinks this is the case.

    4. So, one person’s attitude is supposed to speak for all of Ismailis? That’s the same logic racists use to equate all Muslims with terrorists. I don’t need to dignify this with a response beyond that.

    5. In all of the Imam’s talika/taliqahs and visits, he scarcely cites the Qur’an or hadiths. That is true. Believers of Ismailism trust he already has those messages in mind when interpreting the faith and lending his murids advice. The author simply lacks faith and trust in the Aga Khan, and you shouldn’t punish the overall body of Ismailism because one person thinks this the Aga Khan is bad.

    6. Leaders in the jamat are selected based on their service to the jamat, not their social status. You naturally strengthen your deen doing service for any mosque. While there are people that don’t want to answer your questions about anything, there are many more people who do…the reason why I’m commenting on this status. This article is the literal promotion of calling other Muslims kafirs and that’s problematic in its own right. The person who wrote this doesn’t know much about Islam at all, simply criticizing the practices of Ismailism they think they know.

    7. This person wasn’t listening to the words said in jamatkhana said while they were Ismaili, plain and simple.

    8. Apparently participating in capitalism and a person being fallible is reason enough to discount and entire sect of Islam. This article is a joke.

    9. Confusion of culture with religion. In south Asian culture, places of worship were used as social status junctures and that hasn’t changed. The same is true of many Christian churches, so just doing this is postulating you should dress plainly to a place of worship which no one should be in the business of saying a person should necessarily dress like something. Individual choices aren’t the entire theme of the religion, this is the same logic people use to equate Islam with terrorism as I mentioned earlier.

This person has gone astray moreso than the Ismaili community as a whole thinking they have a superiority complex for leaving Ismailism behind. You don’t judge someone else for the faith they choose to follow, that’s fundamentally non-Islamic.

  29. The prophet SAWS established the 5 prayers. There are minor variations among the madhabs as to how the prayers are performed but the overall gist is the same; there is a consistency. Rasool SAWS established a 2.5% zakat, not a 10%. No matter how illuminated or wise or enlightened a leader might appear to be, we are commanded to follow the rules and the lifestyle/sunnah of only the Prophet SAW….not Hazrat Ali or any other prominent figure…only Rasoolullah SAWS. The Prophet SAWS endured many heartaches and many hardships to establish Islam for us and Allah himself has said that: Today I have perfected your deen. Which deen is Allah talking about? It is the deen of 5 prayers not 6….it is the deen of 2.5% zakat not 10+%….it’s the deen where NO addition to the kalima of la ilaha ill Allah Muhammadur Rasulullah has been made. Hazrat Fatima was the direct offspring of the Prophet SAWS…is her name in the kalima? How about Rasool SAW’s sons and grandsons? No matter how much we respect his family members…were the names part of the original kalima? No. What is the need to make such increases and additions to the original when Allah already said Today I Have Perfected Your Deen…? That “today” refers to the time of the Prophet SAWS not the time of Aga Khan.

I have heard that Hazrat Ali was called the door of knowledge by Prophet SAWS…but Hazrat Ali is not the master of Muslims. Our lord is Allah alone and our master among humans is only Rasoolullah. I have respect for the saints/awliya, but what qualifications do they need to have in order to be considered a wali or among the awliya? The answer is simple: Their outward and personal life needs to be a reflection of the sunnah. Our Prophet SAWS had several wives, but did they dress the way that Aga Khan’s wives do? If we are turning a blind eye to realities that are glaring at us straight in the face, then we are not being honest, we’re making excuses.

The Prophet’s sunnah is that when giving you zakat you should look first within ur extended family for those that are needy and if there’s nobody, then look within the community near you. If I have an aunt or uncle or cousin who is starving, they are more deserving of my money. If I give that money to an organization, they might use that money for building repairs or to pay salary of workers or for advertising and hosting events…..that money may not go into the direct hands of someone who is suffering and needs it right away. If there is someone in my neighborhood that is in dire need of money, what sense is there for me to ignore that person and to give my money to a spiritual leader that is is going to use it to fund medical equipment for a 5-star hospital in another country or for textbooks and other academic resources for a 10-star university in a location far far far away from the poor family in your neighborhood that’s suffering? Is the leader going to have a vision about this particular family and there whereabouts? Those who are in immediate need should get the money. It’s best to give the money directly to the needy; Zakat money should not be used for things like construction or maintenance etc etc. If the folks down the street are being neglected as they live in povert, should you really feel pride over the slew of 5-star hotels and schools and other buildings? With the 2.5% ….even theMuslim who makes a small salary might be able to fulfill paying zakat. But make it 10% and he might feel regret in not being able to pay it. If he wants to give more than 2.5 it’s called sadaqah. There is wisdom behind whatever percentage was established by the Prophet SAWS.

People tend to deflect. Deflection means trying to take someone’s attention away from something, For example….and this is just an example…..if someone commits zina and is called out for it….but you quickly defend that person by saying that he gives money to the poor regularly…..zina and charity are two different things…it’s like comparing apples to oranges. You are sweeping the zina under the rug and shining a spotlight on the works of charity….but that does not remove the zina. The point of the analogy is that a wali of Allah is one whose personal life also reflects sunnah….his choices reflect sunnah…his marriages reflect sunnah….the

  30. 31. Unbelievable and shocking to read the defensive rhetoric from Ismailis. The fake Imam is caught red handed for his religious and financial frauds, yet these faithful ones are still defending him.Meaning
partner in crime. They should read his speech in Pakistan in 1976 and learn his hypocrisy. From surface it is all about Islam and Quran, but in private in the temple-Mandir jamat khana it is about Hindu-Ismailim. The cult started in 17thC. The dua was in Gujarati and Kutchi full of Hindu god’s
names, no name of Allah or sujud to Allah. Then as fake Imam grew older he changed .dua 4-5 times.
The title of religion changed 4 times.
Just this much is enough to know that it is Imam’s cult. If you want your cult then please do not use
our trade mark titles Islam and Muslim for your cult. Remove it and we will shut up and leave you alone. Until then you shut up and stop lying about your religion. It is a sin and cannot be forgiven by
your fake Imam even if you bribe him and pay cash.every month.

      • Give me a date. Ask your Mowla to give me a date that which ex-Ismaili will accept Ismailism on which date. Ask your Hazar Imam to give me a date when will he die? Even your previous Hazar Imam in his will wrote that Karim should be made Aga Khan IF Karim doesn’t pre-decease Sultah Mohammed Shah. Your previous Imam Sultan Mohamed Shah died of Cancer and couldn’t even cure himself. Go get a life you pathetic Ismaili.

  32. Action speak better than words. As a neutral I see Ismialis a amazing example of decency in pluralism and how they conduct themselves. We have to respect all faiths and all people. Many Muslims can learn a lot from Ismialis. Most have no leadership. The youngsters have no direction. Hence they follow extremism. Islam is supposed to be peaceful. You think God has favorites? No. Whether you are Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu or ISMIALI you are his child. STOP CRITIZING EACH OTHER. SHAME ON YOU. YOUR FATHER(GOD) WILL NOT BE HAPPY. On day of judgment you will be on for a shock! GOD CREATED MAN IN HIS IMAGE AND FROM ONE SOUL. To me Ismialis should be proud. They don’t go out there judging people. Or don’t force Thier views. Allah (God) bless you all.

  34. Salam Alaikum,
I’ve recently moved to Russia where I met a young man who said he was muslim. I got the feeling that he wasn’t exactly muslim even though he looked outwardly as one, central Asian, beard etc. He didn’t say prayer on the Prophet (SAW) so I knew something was funny. Eventually I did some research and worked out that he’s Shia Ismaili and follows Shah Karim. I decided to look further… All of this was absolutely new to me, all I had ever known about, historically were the Assassins but I didn’t know they were still around but now of course under a new ‘imam’ and name. He keeps sending me loads of ‘Ismailignosis’, Hadiths without isnad and Quranic verses but the translation doesn’t seem right. I’m of course no expert. I am a muslim, who follows the Maliki fiqh. Something about his mindset seems wrong. He talks about Muawiyya all the time and can’t stop. He calls us hypocrites because we don’t know history. He is totally unreasonable and He won’t stop the religious debate. I don’t get it, why is trying so hard to convince me that Shah Karim is a descendant? He is not a stupid person at all but when it comes to religion he goes a bit crazy even his eyes change. I tried not to be prejudice. I guess what I’d like to know is, are these people completely out of Islam? Are they trying to recruit? Are they brainwashed? I don’t get the feeling that there is moderation in their religion. This was my first encounter with an Ismaili and I’m wondering if he is the devil… Seriously.

  35. How Imam Ali bin Abu Tablib (SA) practised his Islamic faith is NO ONE’s business, and like wise, how Husayn bin Ali (SA) practised his faith, is again, NO ONE else’s business, Going down the chain of Ismali Imams all the way to Aga Khan I Mahhalati who left Iran for the Indian sub-continent – again how he practised his faith is again NO ONE’s business. The real reason why followers of Imam Husayn bin Ali bin Abu Talib immured him on the fields of Karbala is because he was asking for Dasond from them and they did NOT want to give him their dashond and that’s why they killed him on that field – they switch sides after they were bribed by Yazid’s forces. Shame on you ithasharis from Iraq and Iran. And then on Ashura you people impale yourselves with chains which has NO MEANING what so ever in Islam. When Imam Husayn bin Ali (SA) asked you to join him on the fields of Karbala, against dictator Yazid bin Muawiyya bin abu suffiyan and his strong hench man Ibne Ziyyad, you ithnasharis turned your backs against him. You people are called up till today heretics by Sunnis. Live by the rule of sword, and you’ll die by the rule of sword.

Be happy wherever you are. We Ismailis are highly educated community and we know what we are following and are very happy to be Ismailis.
